This classy 555-room hotel, spanning the top 34 floors of the majestic Jinmao Tower, remains one of Shànghǎi’s finest. Its once unimpeachable standard for quality high-rise hotel living in Shànghǎi attracted inevitable competition, but an ongoing floor-by-floor refurbishment has pepped up rooms. Dramatic-looking Tang-dynasty poems are inscribed in gold above lovely beds, while espresso-making machines, smart tan-leather work desks and inviting bathrooms round out a luxurious picture. Corner rooms are coveted, the neck-craning 33-storey atrium is always astonishing, while service remains highly attentive, restaurants are outstanding and the views stratospheric.
