This hotel has a marvellous location at the heart of the action just south of East Nanjing Rd. It's not luxurious despite its pretensions, however it offers good value for travellers who don't want to go totally overboard but require comfort and convenience.
The strong proclivity for gold and marble in the foyer - a place where vast chandeliers meet vague Art Deco effects - is matched by over-sweetened tinkling from the hotel pianist. That's pretty much standard in Shànghǎi, and so are the inadequate English skills at reception, but the four-star hotel's name pinpoints exactly where its forte lies - perfect location. And the discounted tariff adds good value to the equation. Doubles are pleasant and well-done, if rather unsurprising, with smallish bathrooms. Food in the restaurants is OK (although the breakfast is good), but with so many great restaurants nearby you're spoiled for choice - so do eat out. Wi-fi in public areas.
