Sakura Café
This unbelievably raucous place has gone from subdued and relaxed to utterly rè nào (hot and noisy, the way Chinese like it) in half a decade. It is actually one of several other 'Sakura Cafés' also found along this lane; perfectly located to draw in tourists, they absolutely swell with customers at night. You'll hardly hear yourself think at times, but the Korean bimbab set meal is still outrageously good.

Hyang Chon Korean Restaurant
This somewhat expensive Korean restaurant attracts Korean expats and their friends with its authentic ginseng chicken and bibimbab, rice served in a sizzling pot topped with thinly sliced beef and cooked and preserved vegetables, which is then bound by a raw egg and flavoured with chilli-laced soy bean paste. Service is friendly and helpful.

Haitanghua Pyongyang Cold Noodle Restaurant
There aren’t too many North Korean restaurants in the world and a night here is made special by the waitresses who take it in turns to break out into Korean folk and pop songs. The picture menu is heavy on Korean hotpot and, of course, noodles. The restaurant is on the corner of Xindong Lu.

Sorabol
This dependably good Korean chain restaurant is the place to come for barbecue and banfan (rice, egg, meat, vegetables and hot pepper sauce), as well as paigu (roast spareribs). Another branch can be found at Landmark Towers (2/F, 8 Dongsanhuan Beilu) in Cháoyáng.

Hansung Co
Fans of Korean soaps love this stylish little shop for homemade fast food and a clean, contemporary feel absent from other eateries in the neighbourhood. There are about 30 dishes ($50 to $70) on the menu. The fried meat patty with green beans and the Korean rice cake are popular.

Salang Bang
A big hang-out for the many South Korean students in the area, this slick, spacious and efficient eatery is especially good for Korean barbecue and seafood. All the dishes come with a selection of Korean nibbles like tofu and kimchi.

Sorabol Korean Restaurant
This is the Korean's Korean restaurant, with helpful and informative staff. The barbecues are great and the kimchi dishes - notably the summer variety of the piquant and fermented cabbage - particularly well-prepared.

Chang Won Korean Restaurant
One of the most authentic Korean restaurants in town, Chang Won makes delectable beef ribs, seafood pancakes and cold noodles, and the staff are generous with side dishes. But the toilet is not for the faint-hearted.

Tudari
A handily located Korean barbecue restaurant with amiable staff and a bubbly atmosphere. Try the lamb kebabs (羊肉串; Y12.50 for five) or swelter over a kimchi hotpot (泡菜火锅; Y22). It's alongside the Dōngfāng City Plaza Shopping Centre (东方大厦; Dōngfāng Dàshà).

Tudali
With the accent on spiciness, this popular Korean restaurant brings out patrons in a sweat. The pàocàitāng (泡菜汤; kimchi soup; Y15) is refreshingly piquant, as is the làwèi niúròutāng (辣味牛肉汤; spicy beef soup; Y22), or you can get your metal chopsticks around a plate of chips (Y10). Handy photo menu and helpful staff in red and black tops.
