Correction to Beijing 9 City Guide

It’s come to our attention that there’s an error in the Beijing city guide. (We printed the map from page 291 on page 293.)

We’ve fixed the ebook and the digital chapters, but if you’ve bought a copy of the book already you can get a corrected copy of pages 292 and 293 here.

Chinese Visa Sticky

Until recently, it was relatively easy to get a Chinese visa. The situation has changed beginning about mid March and it is expected to remain unstable until well after the Olympics.
It is now impossible to get a 6 or 12 month multiple entry business visa.
It is now impossible to get entries longer than 30 days.
In many embassies and consulates it would appear impossible to get a double entry tourist visa.
It has been reported that beginning July, it may be difficult to impossible to get…

Renewing British passport from Beijing

Hi everyone, sorry if this has already been posted but I couldn't find any recent info. My UK passport is almost full so I'm going to have to renew it. I live in Inner Mongolia, China, and according to the .gov website I need to go to Beijing to apply in person (and again to pick the new passport up). I take it that means it's no longer possible to send the application to Hong Kong? I remember the chaos about this in the summer.

Anyway I wonder if anybody has experience of renewing their…

When to Book Flights?

Hi there,
I'm planning a trip to Guilin next October, and would like to know when the best time to book the flights is (London - Guilin). If I look on expedia right now, the price is about seven hundred pounds return. if I do a 'simulation' for a flight two weeks from now, it's five hundred.

Also, I'm using expedia. Any better sites, gratefully received.

Thanks.

Xinjian in November/early December

hello,
I am planning a trip to Xinjiang in a few days, and was wondering if it is worth it in this time of year.
After reading quite a lot about the region and it's climate, I still couldn't understand if tourist attractions are available and if it is reasonable to travel. Also, I would very much appreciate tips for certain cities/places to visit at this specific time of year (as I understand the weather varies throughout the Xinjiang region).
Thanks in advance.

Cheapest airports destinations to India

Hello,

We are looking for the cheapest flight departing from China to India. We can take our flight from any airport in China (including Hong Kong) to any airport in India. The problem is that there so many combinations that it would take very long to test them all. Are there some flights known to be cheaper than others?

For info, we would rather leave from Chengdu, Chongqin, Kunming, Guangzhou, Shengzhen or HK in China but don't care about the landing in India.

Also, do you know how much…

Beijing for 3 days.

Hi again,
So following on from your excellent advice last week:

I will be in Beijing due to a business trip, and I’ll tag as much time onto the end of the trip as I can get away with from a work point of view. It will be limited by how long the business end of things over-runs, and where the weekend falls in that. It could end up being as little as 2 days, the absolute max is 5, and the most likely is 3 days.

I’m a slow moving traveller mostly, happy to spend days in wandering and…
