Part of the Loess Plateau, Níngxià is composed primarily of arid mountain ranges and highlands. Summer temperatures soar during the day, and precipitation is generally no more than a fond memory. Winters are long and often freezing, but spring is lovely, though blustery. April, May, September and October are probably the best months to visit.
