Hi everyone,
I'm Lonely Planet's destination editor for China. The previous post on this topic had gotten very long and was started several years ago. A lot has changed about the Chinese visa situation, so I thought it might be useful to provide a summary of the current situation as we and our writers understand it. For the full run-down on everything you need to know about visas and entry requirements for China, including prices and detailed processing times, check out the China page: http://ww

As obtaining a Chinese tourist visa appears to have gotten much easier, that long sticky thread has now been released to float. OTOH there appear to be increased concerns and lots of issues related to obtaining a tourist visa extension.

It is my intention to search through and try to collect some posted information here in this thread but would appreciate others offering first hand information and questions here rather than starting multiple threads.

For starters, Leshan has consistently been…

Hey,

I'm in the midst of figuring out plans to head to China, and one thing I have come across from friends (who have travelled there on their own without gaining their Z Visa through an agency when a TEFL job has been approved) is about 'document autherisation' in relation to a police check, TEFL qualification and Bachelors Degree qualification documents. I haven't, however, read about this anywhere on Chinese/UK embassy pages?

Anyone with an insight would be very appreciated!

Hello all,

We (myself and my girlfriend) will be spending a couple of weeks in Ningxia and the Eastern part of Gansu in September, and I was thinking about doing a day trip perhaps to walk along some part of the Great Wall in one or the other. Does anyone have any advice on where would be good to do this? A rough plan of our itinerary is below.

If anyone has any other tips on any of the other items on our itinerary it would be appreciated too, I know this is a less visited part of China so…

Hello I'm planning on going to China next month. I want to fly into Chengdu but I will probably just take a one flight into China and travel for two months and then buy my flight to exit in Hong Kong. I already have my visa so that will not be a problem. I would like to know would I have any trouble while entering China on my visa? Could I possible be denied entry if I do not have an exit ticket? I will also add that I spent four months in China form November 2015 to February 2016.

Thank You

Hi,

Together with a friend I will be traveling to Nangqen county from September 4 till September 12 in 2016. Since there is not too much recent information available on this area I will post my itinerary here and see if I can receive some tips.

The plan is to arrive in Yushu on the 4th. Would love to know if there is a guesthouse with an English speaking host in Yushu. We will try to arrange transport to Gaden Monastery and Maozhuang village for the next day. If possible we would drive on to…

Hi All!

Work commitment is going to take me to China, flying out of Shanghai. Unfortunately - I will be around Shanghai Sept 27-Oct 4 (work is prior to Sept 27), which would be Golden Week. Flights are all booked, so dates aren't going to change. I was just in Shanghai last month (and has been to China many times before) & except going to an exhibit that I didn't get a chance to go to last month & Shanghai Disney (I'm intrigued enough), I am hoping to pop out of Shanghai for a few days (Oct…

Hello all,

In a little bit of a pickle here potentially. Ok, so this is the scenario. My travel partner has dual citizenship. We booked a return international flight UK-Hong Kong-China, as well as a couple of domestic flights in China with the first passport's details. It later transpired that we needed to use the second passport for the China visa. The names are slightly different on each passport. My questions are:

  1. Is the airline likely to check the passport we are flying out of the UK
