Bus

The long-distance bus station (98 Shiwei Lu) is near the train station.

Train

The train station is in the centre of town, north of the river. A lofty Mao statue greets arriving passengers.

The K27 train from Běijīng to Pyongyang stops at Dāndōng at 7.30am on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday (Dāndōng to Pyongyang takes 11 hours). If you have the necessary visas (normally requiring that you travel with a tour group), you can hop aboard.

Boat

The Dandong International Ferry Co (710 0228; www.dandongferry.co.kr) runs a boat to Incheon in South Korea, departing on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday (Y970 to Y1800, 16 hours). CITS can arrange tickets.

Air

Flights to and from Dāndōng are limited; check with CITS for schedules and bookings. At the time of writing, there were four flights a week to Běijīng (Y960, 1½ hours) and five to Shànghǎi (Y1200, two hours and 20 minutes).
