It’s come to our attention that there’s an error in the Beijing city guide. (We printed the map from page 291 on page 293.)
We’ve fixed the ebook and the digital chapters, but if you’ve bought a copy of the book already you can get a corrected copy of pages 292 and 293 here.
Until recently, it was relatively easy to get a Chinese visa. The situation has changed beginning about mid March and it is expected to remain unstable until well after the Olympics.
It is now impossible to get a 6 or 12 month multiple entry business visa.
It is now impossible to get entries longer than 30 days.
In many embassies and consulates it would appear impossible to get a double entry tourist visa.
It has been reported that beginning July, it may be difficult to impossible to get…
I'm planning 8 days in Yunnan next week. It's my first trip in this region and considering my time constraints, I've decided to focus on (a small part) North of Yunnan. I'll be traveling from Shanghai to Kunming so below is my current plan:Day 1: Landing in Kunming airport at 11:45am, don't plan to stay in Kunming so straight to west bus station in direction for Dali (4 hours). Overnight in Dali. => Heard that there is direct bus from Airport to West Station (express shuttle…
I was thinking about doing something like this:
BEIJING-Lanzhou(passing through)-XIAHE-LANGMUSI-JIUZHAIGOU(not sure it's worth it)-Chengdu(passing through)-SHANGRI LA-LIJIANG(not sure it's worth it)-DALI-Kumning(passing through)-YANGSHUE-Nanning(passing through)- HANOI
Has anyone every did this route or similar that can advise me on places to skip or add and also how long for this route.
Also how much should I budget for this area for a backpacker couple. Will be there in Summer, July or…
I'm going to visit Shanghai in late January for 2 full days, before moving to Hong Kong.
What you can advise to see/try? 2 full days are enough?
It's easy to walk through the city?
Another visit to get info ::
I am an early riser and enjoy a good stroll before the heat of afternoon hits
And as i stroll i find an interesting place for breakfast so what i would love
are some suggestions on breakfast near my hotel (Hotel 161 Lishi Hutong)
Would they serve dumplings and soups around breakfast time
And in the same area are there some simple bars that locals go to (not
hang outs for Europeans) to get out of the sun
What,s a good beer and about how much
My needs are simple…
I have a couple of days to play with on my way from Hangzhou to Qingdao. Having just seen that "Qufu East" is on the high-speed network, with direct connections to both Hangzhou and Qingdao, I'm thinking of visiting Qufu. Is this a good choice? Is Qufu somewhere I'm likely to enjoy? The sights there sound interesting, with plenty of old preserved stele (which I like) and also the connection to Confucious (who I also quite like).
I'm usually loathe to pay high entrance fees in China, but it…
Me and my daughter are hoping to fly into Chengdu and head out west (Amdo and Kham regions but not Tibet itself) Is there anybody out there who I can contact with loads of questions: budgets, areas to visit, language issues. We spent the summer before last travelling in Ladakh and Spiti and would like to show her another culture and side of the Himalayas. And if anybody has any blogs that they could send me a link to that would be great. We're looking to travel for approximately 4 weeks.…
I have mild-moderate asthma and I am thinking about traveling to China. We would be spending the majority of the time in Xi'an with a few days in Beijing. How will the pollution over there affecting breathing if at all? Thanks!
