Lonely Planet review for Avenue of the Stars
One of the finest city skylines in the world has to be that of Hong Kong Island, and the promenade here is one of the best ways to get an uninterrupted view. It’s a lovely place to stroll around during the day, but it really comes into its own in the evening, during the nightly Symphony of the Stars, a spectacular sound-and-light show involving 20 buildings on the Hong Kong Island skyline, which runs from 8pm to 8.20pm. Along the first part of the promenade is the Avenue of the Stars, which pays homage to the Hong Kong film industry and its stars, with handprints, sculptures and information boards, a brave but ultimately lacklustre effort to celebrate Hong Kong’s film and TV industry. The promenade officially starts at the New World Centre shopping centre and runs parallel to Salisbury Rd almost to the Hong Kong Coliseum and Hung Hom train station, but you can walk along the water all the way from Star Ferry pier in order to gain access to it. It gets especially crowded during the Chinese New Year fireworks displays in late January/early February and in June during the Dragon Boat Festival.

Find other things to do
mickyclark does not recommend this,
Dont spend your time here if you have a tight schedule - just walk through adn enjoy. I recommend you instead go to the Space Museum and Art Museum which are located nearby. The light show was a bit of a fizzle - I dont really know what all the fuss is about it was really just a chance for the people to look at the large neon advertising billboards over the harbour - dont bother with making time for this show but if you have time you might as well becuase it is free. But really I should not complain too much since it is free attraction I just think there is more to see and do if you have a tight schedule like my financee and I did.

A must-see for Hong Kong cinema enthusiasts.

If you're a fan of Hong Kong cinema, the Avenue of the Stars is an absolute must-see. Have your photograph taken next to a bronze statue of Bruce Lee - with a great vista of Hong Kong harbour behind you - or simply browse the long walk of hand-prints and plaques along the promenade, and see how many names you can recognise.

Awesome!
rujun recommends this,
It was fun to walk and check out the stars that have their names immortalized here. This is also a good place to do people-watching and enjoy the fantastic skyscrapers-view at night. A great place to take photos. Best way to visit Avenue of the Stars: Take a long stroll during winter, take many many pictures along the way. (:

I had my photo taken with Andy Lau!

What I mean by that is I had a photo taken next to his star on the Walk. But I enjoyed it! If you're a Hong Kong cinema fan, check it out. A nice nighttime walk will also have the advantage of the city lights over the water.
