Full of hidden corners, vintage touches and vibrant colours, Gaia Ristorante does not disappoint; in fact, its simple yet chic approach to food and style is natural and inviting. Greeted by a friendly waiter, we were seated in a red, atmospheric area, almost resembling a retro Italian bar. As soon as we received the menus, we were pleasantly surprised by the choice offered, where every dish sounded tempting.

After a succulent "primo piatto" of lasagna, which I devoured as soon as the (somewhat delayed) waiter came around, I felt the need to try another of these Italian delicacies served in Hong Kong. The choice was obvious: a romanticized version of sea food, named "Fritto misto di paranza"; the prawns and calamari were delicate and rich at the same time - their freshness was evident. Fortunately, the chefs of Gaia placed more value on the flavour factor rather than complex aesthetics: served in a smart, modern fashion, the food was agreeable to both the sense of taste, as well as sight. 

Despite its location in Hong Kong, the Gaia has managed to create a truly Italian atmosphere, where every detail matches the typical visual representation of a simply good, non-pretentious restaurant with appetizing meals and décor.
