Lonely Planet review
This youth hostel converted from public housing units, features immaculate rooms and dorm-type lodgings, as well as a museum and cafe . Lockers with inbuilt chargers are provided, but not toiletries. After leaving the MTR, go straight on Kweilin St, then turn right into Un Chau St. After a block, make a left into the underground walkway, turning left again as you exit.
Mei Ho House was among the first batch of resettlement blocks built to house the 58,000 homeless survivors of a devastating blaze, known commonly as the 'Shek Kip Mei Fire', that broke out in 1953. As such, it marks the beginning of Hong Kong’s public housing policy.
Our independent authors have visited YHA Mei Ho House Youth Hostel and selected this as one of our recommended hostels in Kowloon.
