Lonely Planet review
If you don’t mind trading 20 extra minutes on the MTR for an excellent budget option, you’ll be rewarded with large, clean and cheerful rooms atop a community youth center in Chai Wan (not Wan Chai!). Popular with students from mainland China on semesters abroad, the vibe here is more upscale dormitory than backpacker hostel.
The beaches and bazaar of Stanley are only 15 minutes away by bus from the 16X bus stop opposite the MTR station. To reach the hostel from exit A, go straight through the youth center to the footbridge and take the first exit on your right. Reception’s on the 12th floor. Staff are very friendly.
Our independent authors have visited Y-Loft Youth Square and selected this as one of our recommended hostel/backpacker accommodations in Hong Kong Island: Wan Chai & the Northeast.
