Correction to Beijing 9 City Guide

It’s come to our attention that there’s an error in the Beijing city guide. (We printed the map from page 291 on page 293.)

We’ve fixed the ebook and the digital chapters, but if you’ve bought a copy of the book already you can get a corrected copy of pages 292 and 293 here.

Chinese Visa Sticky

Until recently, it was relatively easy to get a Chinese visa. The situation has changed beginning about mid March and it is expected to remain unstable until well after the Olympics.
It is now impossible to get a 6 or 12 month multiple entry business visa.
It is now impossible to get entries longer than 30 days.
In many embassies and consulates it would appear impossible to get a double entry tourist visa.
It has been reported that beginning July, it may be difficult to impossible to get…

Hostel warning- Dragon King hostel Beijing - STAY AWAY!

Due to some unfortunate problems with Dragon King hostel in Beijing - please STAY AWAY as they are being investigated by the Beijing Tourism municipal authority and the police.

This place needs to be shut down asap before more problems happen....the management yet alone the owner does nothing.

I have had personal property (luggage, souvenirs) damaged and theft from my storage locker. Excursions that never happened, arguments with staff and so on....

You have been warned! What happened:

I…

Handan, Southern Hebei

I have noticed a distinct lack of good information, or a distinct misinformation about this ancient city and the region around it. While I will not argue that many hotels claim to not allow foreigners (non-Chinese), I do question if those people have really tried very hard to find foreigner friendly hotels.

Handan is over 5,000 years old. It was the seat of the rulers of Zhao and the surrounding counties all have interesting sites, depending on your reasons for travel.

Feel free to ask me…

Cycling between Hami and Urumqui - food & water support on the way

Hi,
we will go by bicycle by mid April from Hami to Urumqui and are wondering if somebody here can advise.

Our questions are:
- Is there any food support along the road, any places where we can buy food ? Where, or in which distance?
- Same question for water, where can we get water there?
-We have a tent with us, but are there also homestays/roadhouses ... Where we could sleep?

Thank you very much in advance for your help!

No 'admitted until' remark on China passport stamp.

Hello, I am in China for the first time. I just realised, that the China passport stamp doesn't have any 'admitted until' remark. Having booked my hotel room in Hong Kong already, I am now unsure as to when I have to leave China. I arrived here with a "M" visa in my passport, duration of stay: 30 days. My arrival passport stamp shows February 27, 2015. My question now is, when is the last day that I have to exit China: March 28th or 29th??

(I would leave one day earlier, but it would be very…

Advice On a First Time Budget in Hong Kong

Hello all.

Its been quite some time since I've been around here (surprised I remembered my password), but I thought I would reach out for some advice to supplement my own reading/research/whatever.

I'll finally be taking my first trip to Asia in mid-April, but due to a seriously retrograde vacation policy I was only able to secure a week off. So, I opted to focus on Hong Kong. (I've been wanting to visit since I discovered John Woo's work in the early-nineties, but somehow never did.)

Zhengding/Shijiazhuang

Having woken FAR too early this morning and with nothing much to do for several hours, I thought I'd sit down and write a brief report about my trip, last weekend, to Shijiazhuang and Zhengding.

Football season is upon us once again and I am taking the opportunity of linking in the "cultural and sociological" nature of my travels with a little bit of laugh-out-loud fun by way of Chinese football. This weekend, there being no Beijing Guoan match to watch, I decided to take a trip into Hebei

Bus stations in Zhangye

Good morning,

My friends and I will be traveling from Xining to Zhangye late April (morning bus). Upon arrival we would like to go straight away to Danxia Geo Park, which buses depart from the West Bus Station.

Now, there is a bit of confusion on whether the bus from Xining arrives to the West of the South Bus Station. Anyone with up-to-date information?

Thank you!
