Correction to Beijing 9 City Guide

It’s come to our attention that there’s an error in the Beijing city guide. (We printed the map from page 291 on page 293.)

We’ve fixed the ebook and the digital chapters, but if you’ve bought a copy of the book already you can get a corrected copy of pages 292 and 293 here.

Chinese Visa Sticky

Until recently, it was relatively easy to get a Chinese visa. The situation has changed beginning about mid March and it is expected to remain unstable until well after the Olympics.
It is now impossible to get a 6 or 12 month multiple entry business visa.
It is now impossible to get entries longer than 30 days.
In many embassies and consulates it would appear impossible to get a double entry tourist visa.
It has been reported that beginning July, it may be difficult to impossible to get…

Visa Application and Xinjiang Itinerary

I have friends (American passports) who plan to visit China in the late summer. If they list Xinjiang on the visa app and if their roundtrip flight reservations show Kashagar (arrival via Beijing) and Urumqi (departure also via Beijing), should they expect any problems with a "L" visa from the PRC consulate (probably SF's or LA's)?

I've seen the song'n dance regarding "revising" itineraries and reservations that include Tibet but wonder about spillover to Xinjiang.

Thanks.

Video on how to get a Chinese visa!

This video just came out, and seems really accurate and on point about how to get a visa in China.
The rules are always changing, and this one seems really up to date.
Also, the dude talks about this loophole about how to get a work visa outside of your home country.

Power Banks

Would like to confirm if airports in China will disallow carry on power banks with capacities over 10000mha. There was a rule that power banks were longer allowed in checkin luggage.
Need to know this so as to not have to leave behind my power banks when I leave China. No problem on departure from my country but need to know if you can depart from a China International airport with carry on power banks higher than 10000mha.

Thanks in advance for any advise.

Macau Immigration

I am planning on doing the bungee in Macau at 11:00am. I was looking at the departure times for the ferry from HK Island, and read that there is immigration on arrival in Macau. I am a British Passport holder so I do not need a visa.

Can anybody who has been through the immigration process explain how long this may take? I really don't want to miss the jump...

Sanjiang to Kaili in less than 36 hours.

Actually its Maan (Chengyang Bridge) to Xijiang in less than 36 hours- I have stuffed up my planning and hostel booking.

Most people seem to go by several buses from Maan to Sanjiang to Kaili/Xijiang via Congyang but I am not sure if this can be done if you leave Maan villagei in the morning and want to get to Xijiang by the following afternoon.

There are two trains which do the trip in a big dogsleg via Huaihah. leave Sanjiang at 00.20 on train 2012 Arrive Huaihah 4.20am. Leave Huaihah…

Chinese visa problem

Hello everyone,

I am planning a trip to Asia during the summer vacation. I have already bought the flight tickets, booked accommodation and got few more things sorted. However, one problem still remain. I need to get a visa to be able to enter Mainland China. I am sure I meet all the requirements, but one. The embassy in the Czech Republic requires us to show a booked/purchased air ticket, and in case we would like to travel by different means of transport, then we are required to hand out a…

Western Sichuan current status

Sorry if this has been asked before. I know it has because I've seen discussions on it over the last few years. The thing is, I know the situation is constantly changing, so I'm trying to find out what it is RIGHT NOW in March 2015.

What is the status of Western Sichuan (the Tibetan regions) for foreigners right now? Are foreigners allowed in? I know that at times in the past few years, because of local unrest and immolations by Tibetan monks, certain parts of Western Sichuan have been closed…
