Hi everyone,
I'm Lonely Planet's destination editor for China. The previous post on this topic had gotten very long and was started several years ago. A lot has changed about the Chinese visa situation, so I thought it might be useful to provide a summary of the current situation as we and our writers understand it. For the full run-down on everything you need to know about visas and entry requirements for China, including prices and detailed processing times, check out the China page: http://ww

It is now impossible to get a 6 or 12 month multiple entry business visa.
It is now impossible to get entries longer than 30 days.
In many embassies and consulates it would appear impossible to get a double entry tourist visa.
It has been reported that beginning July, it may be difficult to impossible to get…

Hello

I will be travelling in the area of Longji Rice Terrace and Yangshuo between October 1st and 5th. When I bought my plane ticket I didn't know about the National Day Holidays. I know the area is going to be overcrowded and hotel prices are going up. I have contacted a hotel and their prices are around 70€ a night for a single room and I'll be travelling on a Budget. They also want me to pay in advance by paypal in order to make the reservation.

If I just show up at Dazhai and Yangshuo…

LP guide China says do not go to Wuyishan if there is heavy rain no matter what tour organizers and hotels tell you. These are the reasons I can think of, let me know which are true, or the other reasons not to go when it's rainy.

Hey guys,

I have a return flight booked to Hong Kong, but plan to spend a couple of weeks in China. Would the flight documents be sufficient evidence of travel for a Chinese Visa, or would I have to book travel arrangements into and out of China from Hong Kong?

Thanks in advance!

We want to visit Shanghai so we will travel from Xiamen up to Shanghai from Shanghai to Chengdu. We have 15 days to get to Chengdu. This will be my…
