Maliandao Tea Market

Lonely Planet review for Maliandao Tea Market
South of Beijing West Train Station is Maliandao, the largest tea market in northern China. The four-storey building is home to if not all the tea in China, then an awful lot of it. There are brews from all over the country here, including pu’er and oolong. Although it’s mostly for wholesalers, the market is a great place to wander for anyone interested in tea and the vendors are normally happy to let you sample some. Maliandao Lu itself has hundreds of tea shops, where prices for tea and tea sets are lower than in the tea shops in tourist areas. To find the tea market, look for the statue of Lu Yu, the 8th-century sage who wrote the first book on growing, preparing and drinking tea, which stands outside it.

A Beijing "Must Do" for tea lovers!
travelpatricia recommends this,
Definitely a Beijing "Must Do" for tea lovers. At Maliandao you'll see tea from o.k. quality to quality fit for a king. You'll also find some of the most beautiful tea pots, services and tea paraphernalia imaginable.
There are also a lot of high end craft items there for purchase - but they are not cheap.
Overall prices at Maliandao are lower than you'd find at your typical tourist spot, but you still have to be prepared to bargain.
If you want even lower prices and want to bargain, bargain, bargain then walk outside of Maliando and turn left. Cross the street and enter the world of the independents - as I call them. These are smaller tea stores where I found prices to be even lower than Maliandao's and the store owners are more willing to negotiate and give you a deal. Some will actually perform a tea service for you to let you try the teas and demonstrate how they use all of the tea instruments that are included in a typical tea service.
