Lonely Planet review for Beijing Dadong Roast Duck Restaurant
A long-term favourite with Beijingers, Dadong’s hallmark bird is crispy, lean and delicious. With a large and bright dining area, this is perhaps the best place to try the capital’s signature dish, but book ahead or be prepared to wait for a table. English menu.

Overpriced
simsima does not recommend this,
The only difference from many other even better places all over Beijing this one is promoted in many travels giudes and is overpriced. Do your research on cityweekend.com or beijinger.com and don't be afraid to go out of 3rd ring road for your meal. The further you go, the more chances you will hit more authentic and less touristy place

Great experience but the Dadong restaurants are a chain!
peterpoier recommends this,
The restaurant conveyed a pleasant and noble atmosphere. The duck was expensive (196 RMB) rather small (just enough for 4 people) but delecious. The tea was expensive (one pot of fruit tea for 45 RMB) but particularly good.
However, one should be aware that this restaurant is a actually a chain. We were using two guides: Lonely planet and Marcopolo. Both were recommending the Dadong restaurant but different branches of it. Unfortunately we looked up the phone number in one guide and the address in the other. Eventually we ended up in some Dadong restaurant, where we didn't have a reservation. In the other Dadong restaurant we lost our reservation because we were out of time. We had to wait for another 30 minutes before they were able to offer us a table.

Overestimated restaurant
nondas recommends this,
I followed you guidelines (as I usually do) for trying the best roasted duck in Beijing. I admit that the atmosphere was unique and really traditional but besides this the food was just OK and a bit expensive. It seems that the restaurant is affected by the lonely planet effect and is more touristic than it used to be
