Lonely Planet review for Annie’s
Immediately south of the Agricultural Exhibition Center, and next door to the CD Jazz Café, this two-floor, home-style Italian place does the little things right – good service and a welcoming atmosphere (it’s very child friendly) – while sticking to a tried-and-tested menu of Italian standards. No surprises, but the food is well prepared and it’s popular. There are other branches around town, including Ritan Park.

Disapointingly basic food
uuencode does not recommend this,
This restaurant is curiouly highly rated in Lonely Planet. We ordered the food from Annie's while listening jazz at next door CD jazz cafe (CD jazz cafe has an agreement with the owner of Annie's to serve Annie's food in CD jazz cafe).
I had some lasagnes, and my wife some pizza. Both where correct. Not bad, but not good enougth for a high rate among the restaurants in Beijing. This tastes rather like american food with Italian style, than real Italian food from an Italian Chef.
We used to live in Shanghai before, and we used to go quite often to "Da Marco" restaurant there, which served excellent Italian food of high quality.
Annie's is clearly not in the same category.Good for: Italian-like standards

Favourite Italian joint in BJ
simsima recommends this,
They just do everything correctly (except the newest Sanlitun branch close to the Worker's Stadium). Prices are relatively cheaper compared to other places like this. My favourite there is eggplant appetizer with ricotta cheese. The funny thing is that in Ritan branch they usually bring you Russian menu and have waiters named in Russian names. Guess, maybe because there's many Russians in the area..

Some of the best Western food in Beijing

Most pizza in Beijing is terrible. Sometimes they don't put sauce and then just give you packets of ketchup instead. So I was delighted to discover Annie's! The pizza was great. Better than a lot of pizza in America. They also have pasta and things like that. I was very happy with my meal. It's also pretty close to Sanlitunr so you can always get a late dinner and then go to the bars.
