Lonely Planet review

A huge hit with expats, this cafe-restaurant was the first place to open its doors on the now increasingly trendy lane, Wudaoying Hutong. It’s particularly popular for brunch or lunch, and the British owner does an excellent full English breakfast. There’s a nice conservatory, a nonsmoking area and lots of sofas to sink into. In the evening, it’s a restaurant that serves up Western standards such as mussels in white wine (¥45), as well as being a laid-back spot for a drink.

Nearby, they’ve opened the smaller Vine Leaf , which serves authentic English pub grub in a rustic Chinese píngfáng (bungalow).
