A home away from home for Americans pining for blueberry pie and grits in Běijīng, Steak and Eggs' diner format hits the spot with early risers and families at weekends, as well as revellers looking for late-night sustenance. The American-sized portions will satisfy all but the most ravenous. The breakfast specials are particularly good, but so are the sandwiches (from Y25) and the burgers (from Y35).

    "You'll come for the price and stay for the food"

    Steak and Eggs is a reliable place that serves large portions of pretty good food. The food is largely well done for what it is but don't expect anything particularly startling. Breakfasts are really the star of the show and Steak and Eggs is usually packed on the weekends to show for it. The usual favorite is 3 eggs & steak with properly cooked buttered toast and "home fried potatoes." My other half loves the bottomless cups of proper coffee and my kids love the fantastic milkshakes.

    Paul, the owner, usually has some kind of dinner deal going on that is definitely worth the price and he always shows the big American sports fixtures. Luckily the place is designed so that the TV won't disturb you if you come just for a feed.

    It's cheap, good quality food that always wins a place in the local magazine food awards.

    Oh and avoid the grits unless "Momma" brought you up on them
