Valparaíso Restaurants

  1. Bar Inglés

This is a classic old favorite, with dark wood, white tablecloths and lots of atmosphere. Its decor shows the town's rich maritime tradition.

  2. Bote Salvavidas

The seafood may be overpriced and the service may be lacking, but this is a great place for a close-up of a working port in action. Just get a coffee if you're not happy about the prices.

  3. Café Turri

It's a bit of a tourist trap, immediately after the exit of Ascensor Concepción, but the view from its terrace is lovely. The service can be bumbling, but hey, who's in a hurry?

  4. Café Vinilo

A relaxed crowd comes to this trendy, vibrant café in the happening Cerro Alegre neighborhood. It's in an old refurbished butcher shop. The set menu is surprisingly good.

  5. Casino Royal J Cruz

What a fantastic place this is, with its clutter of antiques everywhere, graffiti on the tabletops and a chaotic, 'anything goes' vibe that is like all Valparaíso distilled into one tiny café. Folk singers are likely to serenade you during your meal. Menus are for wimps here. You simply plump for the mountainous chorrillana (a piled plate of spicy pork, onions and egg, buried under a blanket of chips) and feast away. It's tucked away down a little side alley.

  6. Nuevo Restaurant O'Higgins

Highly recommended by Valparaíso regulars. You too could fall for the charms of the pork ribs coated in white wine sauce, as well as the busy traditional ambience.
