Getting there & around

Villarrica has a main bus terminal (Av Pedro de Valdivia 621), though a few companies have separate offices nearby. Long-distance fares are similar to those from Temuco (an hour away), which has more choices for southbound travel.

Buses Jac (411-447; Bilbao 610), goes to Pucón (US$0.75), Temuco (US$4, one hour) and Lican Ray (US$0.75, 40 minutes) every 30 minutes, and to Coñaripe (US$1.50) eight times daily. Buses Regional Villarrica (411-871; Vicente Reyes 619) also has frequent buses to Pucón (30 minutes) every 15 to 30 minutes.

To Santiago, nightly service is provided by buses leaving the main bus terminal, as well as Buses Jac and Tur Bus (411-534; Anfión Muñoz 657; US$8-42).

They also go to other destinations such as Valdivia (US$4), Los Ángeles (US$7), Concepción (US$8) and Puerto Montt (US$7.50, six hours).

For Argentine destinations, Igi Llaima leaves at 6:45am Monday, Wednesday and Friday for San Martín de los Andes (US$26), Zapala and Neuquén (US$40, 16 hours), via Paso Mamuil Malal. Buses San Martín (411-584; Av Pedro de Valdivia) has a similar service (two hours), and both leave from the main bus terminal.
