Bus

Long-distance and Argentine-bound buses use the main bus terminal (234-149; Av Errázuriz 1400), near Angulo.

Bus companies include Tas Choapa (233-933), JAC (231-325), Tur Bus (234-170), Buses Lit (237-048), Expreso Lago Puyehue (243-919), Tal Norte (236-076), Intersur (231-325), Igi Llaima (234-371), Buses Norte (236-076), Transaustral (233-633), Turibús (233-633) and Cruz del Sur (232-777).

Most services going north on the Panamericana start in Puerto Montt, departing about every hour, with mainly overnight service to Santiago. Buses to destinations in Argentina and Chilean Patagonia, such as Coyhaique, Punta Arenas and Puerto Natales, go via Ruta 215 and Paso Cardenal Antonio Samoré.

Transaustral heads to Coyhaique once weekly, as does Buses Lit, and Turibús goes to Punta Arenas. Igi Llaima goes to Zapala and Neuquén on weekdays, while Tas Choapa and Buses Norte have daily service to Bariloche. Many but not all of these services also originate in Puerto Montt.

Also from the main bus terminal is a service to Río Bueno, with connections to Lago Ranco, to Panguipulli (via Valdivia), and many trips daily to places around Lago Llanquihue at the foot of Volcán Osorno. Other local and regional destinations leave from the Terminal Mercado Municipal (201-237; cnr Errázuriz & Arturio Prat) in the Mercado Municipal. Destinations include Entre Lagos (from front of market; US$2), Termas Puyehue/Aguas Calientes (from back of market; US$1.50), Anticura (US$3, 1½ hours), Pajaritos (US$3) and Río Negro (US$1). Colectivos go to Entre Lagos all year, and to Aguas Calientes in summer.

To get to Bahía Mansa (US$2, two hours), Pucatrihue and Maicolpué on the coast, cross the Río Ráhue to the bus stops at Feria Libre Ráhue (269-704). Better yet, catch a colectivo on the corner of República and Victoria.
