We are planning to rent a Hertz 4WD to drive the "Carretera Austral" southwards to O'Higgins, drop the car and cross the border via boat and foot to Chaltén in Argentina. To avoid the excessive one-way drop-off fees that Hertz imposes, we are looking for someone going in the other direction, northwards, who needs a car to pick up in O'Higgins (Robinson Crusoe Deep Patagonia Lodge) around 27-28 December 2016 and drop off in Balmaceda. Thank you!
I am planning to do the W the first week of March and I am looking to buy a tent. The problem is I only have $150 to spend and I am afraid to buy a tent that will not hold up to the winds or rain of Patagonia and break mid-trip. Is getting a fair tent at this price a pipe dream or should I just rent one at Puerto Natales? If it is not, does anyone have any recommendations? Everything that is being recommended is like $300.
Hey just wanted to see if anyone knows of a good cheap car rental place in preferably in Iqiuque. I am travelling with a friend and we wanted to drive down from Iquique to Santiago. Does anyone know of linked websites, i have been trying to find online but seem to not be finding anything really. Would appreciate the good help.
I'll have one day off during a work trip to Santiago in August and was thinking of doing a one-day ski trip, with a company that will provide transportation (I don't want to rent a car). Which ski areas are best, in terms of distance from Santiago (less car time is preferred) and good conditions? I'm an intermediate skier, so won't be skiing black diamonds. I mainly want to ski somewhere beautiful with great views.
I'm currently in San Pedro, Chile and I would love to travel here with a camper! I'm thinking about three days around San Pedro or more days down to Santiago. The only thing I'm missing is a travel buddy who is just as enthousiastic about this idea as I am!
Are you or do you know someone who would like to travel together for a while? Or do you have experience with travelling with a camper in this area and do you have some advice? Let me know!

I couldn't find any posts about this so I thought I'd start a new one. I'm flying from Sydney to Santiago and will have approx. 1.5 hours before taking a flight to Sao Paulo, Brazil. I'll be able to check my backpack all the way through to Sao Paulo. I'm just wondering if anyone could provide some info on international transfers. Is it really easy to get to the international departures once you arrive? I obviously wont have time to leave the airport and go through immigration so…

I'm traveling to Santiago in a couple of weeks. I really enjoy hiking, so I was hoping to find some hikes to do, but I will be by myself so I don't really want to hike alone. My accommodation is in the city, so I was hoping to do mostly day hikes. Does anyone have any recommendations for good (preferably not crazy expensive :)) tour companies in Santiago that do day hikes? Group tours would be great! I'm also open to doing more "touristy" activities, and would love to take a day trip to…
