Northern Patagonia

Northern Patagonia effectively closes down in winter, when temperatures plummet below zero, pipes freeze and transporta- tion and visitors slow to a trickle. For hardnosed travelers, winter can be an interesting time to explore the region, but you should travel with lots of cold-weather gear and assume that the great majority of restaurants and accommodations will be closed for the season. Summer, loosely from December to February or early March, gets relatively warm and sunny during the day, but you'll still need some layers for chilly evenings. Wear sunscreen as the UV rays can be strong.
