Getting there & away
Most travelers opt to take a ferry from Puerto Montt or Chiloé to Chaitén or Puer- to Chacabuco; fly to Chaitén or Coyhaique; or go overland via Argentina, accessing the region through Futaleufú. Those who are more ambitious can drive the length of Carretera Austral, but must circumnavigate Parque Pumalín on the ferry from Hornopirén to Caleta Gonzalo, which only runs in January and February.
