San Pedro's lack of a bank has long been a sore point with travelers, who until recently had to bus back to Calama to fill their pockets. In recent years a mobile cash machine has periodically appeared then disappeared. At the time of research, an ATM (Caracoles s/n; 9am-10pm) was located on the western side of the village. However, it's still recommended to bring a sizable cash stash as backup.

Many establishments take plastic, but some prefer the real stuff. To change cash try the imaginatively named Money Exchange (Toconao 492). Don't expect competitive rates for traveler's checks.
