Red2One
Look past the awkward name: the swanky rooftop bar at the W Hotel, considered the city's most exclusive watering hole, is worth the trip. The cool minimalist design and beautiful people are almost enough to distract you from the jaw-dropping view of the snow-capped Andes in the distance. Be here at sunset – if you can squeeze in.

Confitería Torres
Even after restorations that added contemporary elegance to its appearance, Confitería Torres – one of Santiago's oldest cafes – still wears its history on its sleeve. Aging waiters attend with aplomb, chandeliers glow, and the green-and-white floor tiles are worn from use. Former president Barros Luco always ordered a steak and melted cheese sandwich here; other famous figures who downed coffee or pisco sours here include illustrious figures from Plácido Domingo to Rubén Darío.

Catedral
Classy Catedral has a menu that goes way beyond bar snacks – anyone for a glass of champagne with violet crème brûlée? A poised crew of professionals in their 20s and 30s love this cocktail bar's minimal two-tone couches, smooth wood paneling and mellow music. It's just one of the stylish offerings of the restaurateurs behind Opera restaurant; both are located in the same gorgeously restored corner building.

Café Mosqueto
This adorable cafe is cozy inside on a rainy day – and the sidewalk tables, facing a pedestrian street, offer fantastic people-watching when the sun shines. This block (Mosqueto between Monjitas and Santo Domingo), lined with several similar cafes, is delightfully illuminated in the evening when cafe-goers sip coffee by candlelight.
