Getting there & away

Nearly all traffic reaches and leaves Isla Grande de Chiloé by ferry between Pargua, on the mainland 56km southwest of Puerto Montt, and Chacao, a small town of little interest at the northeast corner of the island. Bus fares to/from the mainland include the half-hour ferry crossing; pedestrians pay US$2, cars cost about US$12. There are no regular flights to Chiloé.
