The easiest way to get around Chiloé is to do the same as the locals and ride the bus. Buses connect every major destination on the main island with some frequency and link up with ferries to smaller islands. It is also easy to explore with a car, which allows you to visit some of the more remote parts of this remote land. You can rent a car in Ancud, Castro or bring one over from the mainland on the ferry. It is difficult to find a decent bike rental on the island, but the area is perfect for two-wheel travel. There are few large hills and numerous sedate country roads. The only drawback is the winter weather.
