  1. Monesterio

This is the preferred club for La Ceiba's moneyed, mostly 20-something crowd. The turreted exterior says King Arthur more than John the Baptist, but the inside is pure LA, with a raised dance floor, mezzanine VIP area and sleek tables and high stools in a cavernous bar area. Friday is usually ladies' night (free entrance, free rum and free domestic beer). Regguetón rules, of course, but the DJ usually plays some hip-hop, reggae and even merengue now and then. Dress sharp.

  2. El Bus Pelón

Follow the thumping disco beat to find 'The Bald Bus,' its classic Bluebird styling enhanced by having the entire roof torched right off, all the better to share its impressive sound system with the people. Adult beverages are also available. You can catch it at the parque central, or as it runs around the city until the wee hours.

    Punto G

Sexed-up bare-chested bartenders in spandex and cowboy hats serve the crowd at this raucous establishment, and the occasional tranny show makes for a fine interlude between the serious dancing. This unmarked club is next to the restaurant Ginza Teppanyaki, though the interior is certainly more lavish that its nondescript exterior.

  4. B

    Pueblo Viejo

The best place for Latin dancing in town. This restaurant-club draws a somewhat older crowd, but never lacks for ambiance or energy - in fact, arrive late and you may not get a table. There's live music Thursday through Saturday. Meal deals include soup, salad, a main dish with rice and veggies, dessert and a drink.

  5. South Beach

One of the newer clubs located just north of the triangle (on the highway), South Beach plays a mix of salsa, reguetón and techno, and cultivates a somewhat wilder reputation by hosting wet T-shirt contests and other events. It has one large dance floor, a balcony level and air-con.

    Papagallo Bar & Grill

Papagallo Bar & Grill it attracts a slightly older and wealthier crowd than the other clubs, but by no means is this place dull. A large hardwood floor and strong air-con make for fun dancing, and there's an outdoor patio area if you need a breather. Live concerts are held occasionally.

  7. D

    Miraflores Discotechque

After a few rounds of beers and bocas (savory bar snacks), the party really kicks off at the Miraflores Discotechque, on the southern edge of the Parque Central. Stay aware, however: Heredia can get dodgy at nighttime, though there is an established police presence.

    Titiman’s Culture House

Poots ‘Titiman’ Flores is a local Dangriga legend. His laid-back club – located on an unmarked country road two blocks southwest of the Drums of Our Fathers Monument – is a great place to chill out and get down with serious Garifuna culture.

  9. F

    Luna Roja Café

This place is a bastion of young, hip and trendy josefinos so leave the chinos at home, wear something black and try to look cool. It has a ladies night every Monday and even features the occasional Goth night.

  10. G

    Complejo Salsa 54 y Zadidas

This vast 2nd-story club is a good place to shake it if you want to go Latin, playing a mix of merengue, salsa, cumbia and Latin swing. Be prepared to cut some serious rug here – the local dancers are expert salseros.

  12. Elements

Near enough to the Zona Rosa to be included here, this discotheque caters to a crowd in their early 20's, although you wouldn't guess it from the popular '80s music theme nights. The DJ also spins (current) top 40 tunes.

  13. H

    Mi Guajira

This happening little disco/bar has a pretty good atmosphere and goes fairly light on the snob factor. Music varies depending on the night, but be prepared for anything from salsa to reggaeton to trance.

  14. La Casona

Two blocks off the main drag, this huge wood-paneled building may look more like a ski lodge than a nightclub, but it’s a favorite destination for La Ceiba’s late-20s and early-30s set.

  15. I

    Caesar’s Palace

The music and crowd here have a strong Latino element. People start turning up at about 10:30pm, and the action on and around the small dance floor can get pretty lively on Friday and Saturday.

  16. Stork Club

This hotel is a bit of a social hub, attracting tourists and expats but not too many locals. There is often live music on Saturday; otherwise, DJs play on Friday and Saturday nights.

  17. Hipa Hipa

Not just a club, but the club, with a dress code, Euro styling, imported DJs and 'a better class of people' (between 18 and 22), as one pudgy scenester suavely put it.

  18. La Fábrica

Granada's hottest dance spot, La Fábrica, was closed at the time of research - if it's reopened, slip into your sexiest outfit and get ready to party into the wee hours.

  19. Otangani Disco
