Big Tree Trail
This short 0.86-mile trail of moderate difficulty gets its name from the size of the vegetation along the way. The walk takes about a half-hour each way, and it has interpretive signs along its route through tabonuco forest before ending at La Mina Falls. Charco Azul Trail
The most popular trail in the reserve and the most easily accessible is Charco Azul, which takes you to the swimming hole and camping/picnic area of the same name. It is an easy half-mile walk from Hwy 184, near the southeast corner of the forest. Beyond here a sketchy trail leads to the top of Cerro La Santa (2730 feet), Carite's highest point.

As well as seeing the process from cane cutting to bottling, there’s also plenty of opportunity for tasting and buying, including some unusual blends hard to find elsewhere, like mango and coffee. The rum punches are, unsurprisingly, excellent.

Culebra Bike Shop
Culebra Bike Shop is sometimes open, sometimes not. If no one answers your hollering, try yer man, Steve, on the phone. Still no luck, look him up in the Dinghy Dock next door. If you do manage to pin him down, Steve rents decent mountain bikes like Diamondbacks for approximately $25 a day, with discounts for longer rents.
