    WoW Surfing School – WoW stands for Walk on Water – runs full surfing lessons from Playa Escambrón in Puerta de Tierra or Pine Grove on Playa Isla Verde. Lessons include boards, stretching, safety drills, dry land practice and the real thing. Board rentals ($30 to $40 per day) are also available.

  2. Kalichee Surf Shop

    Inside the Grande Shopping Center, Kalichee rents all sizes of surfboards for $25 to $45 a day and offers advice on where to find the best surfing. A credit card is needed to rent. They can also hook you up with the many local instructors who say they can get a beginner standing up by the end of a two-hour lesson.

    La Selva Surf Shop has been around for more than 25 years. Well-stocked and friendly, it rents out surfboards and body boards and offers the latest on surf conditions at La Pared (literally two blocks away), La Selva (further east) and around the Humacao area to the south.

    Velauno is a great place to start learning how to surf, windsurf or kitesurf. On weekends it rents equipment right from the beach, and there is a discount for rentals longer than a day. Classes in all three disciplines offered.
