Lonely Planet review

A restored 16th century mansion set on the main plaza, its rooms are spacious with wooden floors and ceilings and cheery tiled bathrooms. The breakfast is nice and healthy and the friendly staff can arrange day trips or excursions.

This magnificent former manor house has a pedigree as the former home of the Marquesses of the Quinta Roja. Okay, we don't know who they are, but they sound pretty impressive. Plus the building is touted as one of the finest examples of Baroque architecture in the Canary islands (by those in the know). It is also in a prime position, right on the buzzy main town square. Serious credentials, but deservedly so, as the hotel is lovely. Managed by an enthusiastic young team, its rooms are centred around a main patio, complete with fountain and wooden galleries. They have parquet floors, muted colours and mosaic-tile bathrooms. The communal sitting room is suitably plush with sky-blue sofas, while the bar-cafeteria opens on to a spacious deck with plush, cushioned wicker chairs where you can sip your cocktail in style.
