Car & motorcycle
Car
There are many car-rental firms in Valverde and if you reserve ahead they’ll have a car waiting for you at the airport or port when you arrive. In addition to the large chains renting throughout the Canaries, local companies like Autos Bamir (922 55 01 83; Calle Doctor Quintero 27, Valverde) may work out cheaper (around €25 per day), though their cars are likely older.
Be sure to fill up the petrol tank before leaving Valverde, as there are only three petrol stations on the island! One is in the capital, a second in La Frontera and a third on the highway towards La Restinga.
Bus & tram
Bus
The island’s buses, which cost €1 per trip, no matter where you’re going, are run by the Servicio Insular de Guagua (922 55 07 29; fax 922 55 14 96). At the time of research, new bus routes and timetables were being created, so the travel times in this chapter could change. Ask at a tourist office or bus station for a complete, up-to-date bus schedule.
Local transport
Taxi
Taxis are an expensive way to get around the island; a ride from Valverde to La Restinga will cost around €35. The phone number for a taxi in Valverde is 922 55 07 29.
