As well as being a transportation hub – the SeaBus from downtown docks here and you can hit transit buses to Capilano and Grouse – there's a popular indoor market here. Look for BC wines, slabs of fudge and glassy-eyed fish on the main floor, plus trinkets and clothing one floor up. There's also a microbrewery lounge plus a Saturday farmers market outside in summer.
If it's time to eat, the market has a food court and several other dining options. The pizza, fish and chips and house-made soup stands are all good but Sharkey's is the way to go; $8.95 for a heaping plate of meat and veggies that easily feeds two. The Quay is an easy jaunt from downtown, with many visitors scooping up an ice cream and lingering over the boardwalk views of Vancouver.
