Lonely Planet review for Belgian Fries

The concept is pure genius: take fresh-cut spuds, fry them, fry them again, toss, salt and serve in a paper funnel. You then dip the beauties into one of a dozen hot or cold mayo-based sauces, including wasabi, hot garlic, Jamaican heat and curry/chutney. What could be better? Beer, which you choose from the Storm brews on tap or the bottled Belgian lambics. Once you’ve had your fill of spuds and suds, finish yourself off with a deep-fried Mars bar.

    Not Your Typical Fries

    poppenjay recommends this,

It's not hard to make french fries, but it IS hard to make them right, but that's just what Belgian Fries does. While an entire eatery devoted to these salty snacks may seem astounding to some, they haven't tried Belgian Fries. These fries are perfectly crispy, and are only made better by one of the many mayo-based dipping sauces also offered. If "just fries" isn't enough, definitely try the Poutine - it's filling enough to call a full meal.

A word of warning, however. If you're expecting crazy, over-the-top flavoured fries, you'll be disappointed. Their fries are simple, and that, to me, is the appeal.

Great for anybody looking for a quick bite to eat on a budget, in an informal cafe-style setting. And if you have some room, try the deep-fried mars bar - worth the trip.
