New Town Bakery is found in China Town in close proximity to the darker side of Vancouver.  That said, the restaurant lives up to it self proclaimed billing as the purveyor of the best steamed buns in town. The go-to Bun is the BBQ pork, but the spicy pork and the chicken dazzle the tongue and leave you wanting more. The price is right at under $2 Canadian a bun. 

The dining area is brightly lit and the service typical of China Town; gruff but efficient. 

New Town doesn't restrict itself to tantalizing your taste-buds with steamed buns. There you can get such other delicacies  as condensed milk on toast, or Stir Fried Beef with Bitter Melon (trust them when they tell you its bitter, they mean it). 

But whatever you do, after washing your meal down with a piping hot glass of tea, make sure you try the apple tarts. At under a dollar they are a real bargain and worth every penny. Get your timing right, which actually isn't too difficult, and they'll still be warm. The puff pastry crumbles in your mouth leaving you to taste the warm perfectly spiced apples. A sumptuous conclusion to a wonderful meal.

An integral part of modern Vancouver culture, a stop to China Town is a must for any visitor.
