High-quality amenities abound at this landmark Vancouver hotel but it's the location that brings the visitors back year after year. Hugging the seawall and surrounded by the bobbing boats of the marina, it has stunning views of Burrard Inlet, Stanley Park and the North Shore mountains.

When celebrity recluse Howard Hughes came looking for a hotel to hole himself up in for three months in 1972, he brought an army of staff to ensure he wouldn't have to interact with anyone he didn't know. While arriving at the Bayshore's front desk on a path of Kleenexes sporting your favorite robe is likely to raise a few eyebrows today, it probably won't bring you any special treatment - this is Vancouver, after all, and dressing down is de rigueur. While the rooms here are comfortable and well maintained in a business-traveller-friendly way, the raft of extras include an outdoor pool in landscaped surroundings that may be the best reason to stay here in summer. There's also an indoor pool, covering Vancouver's many rainy days.
