Lonely Planet review

Local bands know they've made it when they play Vancouver's best mid-sized venue, a restored art deco ballroom that still has the city's bounciest dance floor – courtesy of tires placed under its floorboards. If you need a break from your moshing, collapse at one of the tables lining the perimeter, catch your breath with a bottled Stella and then plunge back in.

The Commodore has been entertaining locals since 1929 and everyone from Count Basie to the Dead Kennedys has played here over the years (although they apparently weren't on the same bill).
