If you really are looking for an introduction to Ethiopian food then look no further. Ethiopia House is downtown Toronto in an old house with seats downstairs and upstairs. It's a cosy place to be.  The best thing to order is the Vegetarian and meat combo for 2 or 4 or however many. It's cheap and very very tasty.  Some dishes are spicy others are just spiced.  The Injera bread is the staple for Ethiopian food and is also the utensil you will use to eat the food with.  It is said in Ethiopia that those that eat from the same plate will never betray one another. The food consists of many vegetarian dishes, made up of lentils, cabbage, their own flours etc.  They have specific spices they use called Berebere which is in the chicken dish and is amazing!  I cooked Ethiopian once myself, however eating out is far more convenient as you get such a great selection at once with the platter. 
Ethiopia House is also licenced too.  I think this is an all round great place to have dinner for not only good food but a great culture experience as well. If you can't go to Ethiopia this is the next best thing. 
Give it a shot!
NB: Because you are eating with your fingers I have not put this as a Romantic spot but if you don't care about such things then go for your life and think of the Ethiopean significant of sharing a plate of food.  Enjoy!
