Lonely Planet review for Lee’s Palace
Legendary Lee’s Palace has set the stage over the years for Dinosaur Jr, Smashing Pumpkins and Queens of the Stone Age. Kurt Cobain started an infamous bottle-throwing incident when Nirvana played here in 1990. You can’t miss it – look for the primary-colored mural that seems to scream out front.

Didn't live up to its reputation.

Good: The floor layout. There's a lower standing-room only area in front of the stage, surrounded by high tables. More tables and booths are against the wall. All have a great view of the stage.
Bad: The bathrooms are particularly bad, even for an entertainment venue. If you're bigger than a size 10, ladies, make sure you won't need to go. Also, we had a table right behind the sound board, where everyone felt the need to leave their bottles and glasses. The tables have the downfall of being inviting to people who just want to sit and chat, loudly, about all of their problems and how much they hate everyone there.
Ugly: The many "no smoking" signs seem to be purely decoration, as there was plenty of smoking going on, of both the legal and illegal varieties. I'm allergic to smoke and was having a difficult time tolerating it, but when the band started openly smoking weed on stage before the third song, I had to leave. What a waste.Good for: sitting down, getting close to the band
