Saskatoon

Getting there & away

John G Diefenbaker International Airport (YXE; 306-975-8900; 2625 Airport Dr) is 5km northeast of the city, off Idylwyld Dr. Most airlines serve regional destinations in Canada from here, but Northwest Airlines also flies to Minneapolis, Minnesota.

STC covers the province extensively from the bus station (306-933-8000; 50 23rd St E); three daily buses head south to Regina ($38) and north to Prince Albert ($22.50). Greyhound Canada runs two buses to Winnipeg ($110), three to Calgary ($92) and four to Edmonton ($76) daily.

Unfortunately, not only is the train station (Chappell Dr) in the middle of nowhere (8km from downtown), but the thrice-weekly VIA Rail train leaves in the middle of the night – unless you’re a real trainspotter, it might be easier to catch a bus from the downtown terminal instead.
