Canada Branch FAQ

This thread is intended to contain information useful to people travelling to Canada - please feel free to add anything relevant to it! Before we start though, here's some advice from the TT team:

1. Do a TT search! At least five posters a week ask what to do in Toronto, whether to go visit Niagara Falls on their way around the world, and whether it's possible to work under the table/overstay a tourist visa. The road is well travelled. Find those threads, add a reply (which brings the topic to…

Vancouver To Bella Coola

Hi All :)

One of my good friends is getting married in Bella Coola (her home town) this summer (July).

I'm going to be driving up from Vancouver, planning to take two days each way, and I'd like to go through Whistler one direction and the other way the other direction.

best place to stop overnight? (Hoping for halfway or close to halfway). Things to see/do along the way? Best places to eat? (I'm not a picky eater. I love food. All food. ;) ). I love hiking, quirky shops/towns, scenic…

Acceptance of Temporary Belgian Passport

Hi all

My partner and I will be travelling from NZ on a trip to Japan, the UK and Canada in April this year. My partner has a Belgian passport which will expire very soon - February - so we are exploring the possible option of her applying for a Belgian '12 month temporary passport' given the expected turn-around time for a new 'full passport'.

My only concern with this option is that I've read some countries have issues accepting temporary passports.

Unfortunately I have been unable to find…

Camping in Canada

Hi all,

My boyfriend and I have some time planned in Canada as part of a bigger roadtrip through the USA. Our route looks like this;

Banff / Lake Louise
Banff / Lake Louise
Banff / Lake Louise
Banff / Lake Louise
Jasper
Jasper
Kamloops
Whistler
Vancouver
Vancouver

We are looking to keep costs down by camping. Can anyone recommend any good campsite or websites? Seems very easy to find out info for the US National parks, but not so for Canada!

Thanks

J

Backpacking in Jasper

Hey,
I'm new to this site so I'm sorry if I'm not posting in the right area.
I'm 19 and planning a backpacking trip to Jasper National Park. I'm making an itinerary however, I need help.

I plan to take the via rail from Toronto to Jasper, Alberta. From there I want to do a solo hike through Jasper National Park and maybe even Banff if it's possible. I have a lot of money saved but I would like to spend as much time camping as possible. I would take an airplane back to Toronto most likely.

Working Holiday - where to go?

Hi everyone,

I looked around the forum for a little bit, but I couldn't find a similar topic or question, since most topics relate to short holidays in Canada.

So, this year I'll be going to Canada for a 1-year working holiday. Right now, convenience-wise, I'm thinking of staying in the same province. (seeing as I'd like to buy a car, be able to register it, health care, etc.)

I have most practical stuff figured out, since I'm getting help from someone who's already been there. Only 1…

Vancouver to Toronto

Heya,

I've just booked flights for August - flying to Vancouver and leaving from Toronto, in total 24 days.
I'm planning around 8-10 days in Vancouver, then getting the train to Jasper, somehow get to Banff then a friend is picking me up for a few days. Then I'll fly from Calgary or Regina to Toronto for the final week or so.
Dates in each place aren't set in stone.

Where are the best places to stay in Vancouver and Toronto (I'm travelling solo and mid 20s)?
Can anyone suggest the best…
