Introducing Matane
Matane is a commercial fishing port famous for its shrimp. While it’s hardly the peninsula’s prettiest town, it is popular for salmon fishing and for sampling local hauls in the markets and restaurants.

The tourist office (418-562-1065; 968 Ave du Phare Ouest; 9am-6pm Jun & Sep, to 9pm Jul & Aug) is based in a lighthouse alongside a maritime museum.
