Introducing Lac St Jean

Motorists crossing the nondescript flats between Chicoutimi and Lac St Jean may wonder if the area is popular among Québécois for quasi-political reasons alone. The region touts itself as the heartland of Québec nationalism. However, upon reaching the lake, there is a subtle beauty to this open area, where the meeting of sky and water is interrupted only by pale wooden houses and shining church spires. The area also claims to be the province's blueberry and tourtière (meat pie) capital; look out for chocolate-covered blueberries.
