Lonely Planet review for Le Postino
Prime people-watching coupled with friendly, unpretentious waitstaff make this place a popular low-key option in St-Roch. There are plenty of classic pasta dishes on the menu for around $10 to $12 as well as a fantastic choice of risottos with genius combinations such as rabbit, roasted parsnips, caramelized shallots and wild mushrooms.

Don't bother if you care about service

On our second night in Quebec City, we decided to check this restaurant out as it's near our hotel and the building intrigued us. The place was not busy by any means, there were a total of 2 other tables outside when we were seated. We were given menus and and once we made our orders we no longer saw our waitress, unless she was passing us to look on the other 2 tables. Once she brought out our food, she never once checked on us. Our water glasses were bare, my partner wanted another beer but she ignored us and continued onto other tables around us. After completing our meal, we waited and looked around for her to return to get our bill since we just wanted to leave at that point, but she was again no where to be seen. We sat waiting for 20 minutes, finally seeing her eye us but not coming to our table, so we had to call our to her. Finally she came with the bill (after an additional 15 minutes) and we were calculating. She came by our table chatting over us to some passerby's, then after they left she stood there watching us as we were counting our money. Finally we had to just say "we're not ready" so she'd stop standing there while we decided on her tip.
It was just a bad experience after going to such an amazing restaurant the night before. The food was o.k. but not worth the poor service we received. We really feel it had something to do with the fact that we were english speaking. If you're job is to serve people, be professional, especially if you expect a good tip!

A MUST if you're in Quebec city!! The night we went there were only 2 servers and only 1 chef (not too sure if that's the norm) but while the place wasn't packed it was pretty busy so service was slow and the food took a while to come out BUT it was worth it. I had chicken (which was really tender and flavorful) with a olive tapenade and side salad topped with mushrooms drizzled with balsamic vinegar, however the fried polenta was definitely the star of the plate.
The menu did consist of rabbit risotto and some lamb/veal dishes as well as salmon and beef tartar. By the looks of fellow diners clean plates i'm going to assume that everything there was delicious.Good for: Romance, atmosphere, food, Budget Travellers, Groups, Solo Travellers, service
