This thread is intended to contain information useful to people travelling to Canada - please feel free to add anything relevant to it! Before we start though, here's some advice from the TT team:

  1. Do a TT search! At least five posters a week ask what to do in Toronto, whether to go visit Niagara Falls on their way around the world, and whether it's possible to work under the table/overstay a tourist visa. The road is well travelled. Find those threads, add a reply (which brings the…

Hello explorers! My boyfriend and I are traveling to Newfoundland in August, and we will be staying by Gros Morne National Park for a few nights. We are really interested in hiking the park, especially Western Brook Pond, but we can't seem to find much information about it. We specifically want to hike to the top of the gorge to get views like those in the links below. Is this hike one that can be done in a day? Or is it recommended that we camp overnight? Do we need a guide for this hike? If…

Does anyone have any experience in whale watching in Quebec? Good companies to use and good places to stay in the Tadoussac area of Quebec? Thanks!

I've found one other post about something like this, but it's from a few years ago so thought I'd get a new assessment.

I'm heading to Calgary at the start of September to travel through the national parks etc. I had planned to hire an RV/motorhome, but I've stupidly left it too late to find anything thats not way too big or too expensive.

I'm wondering if there is anything stopping me from hiring a transit/cargo van from someone like Enterprise and 'camping' in the back? Will campgrounds…

I have a query on paying for the Canadian ETA (electronic travel authorisation).

Does your home address you put on your ETA application have to match the address of the credit
card you use to pay for it?

(When you get to the payment page, it just tells you to put in the credit card details, but not an address)

It's just the credit card I will be using has a different address to the one I put on the ETA, so don't want the card to get blocked or anything.

Hope someone can help.

The question just below got me thinking about this. I am a dual national of both the UK and Canada. There have been occasions in the past when I have arrived in Canada without a valid Canadian passport. On such occasions, I have used my British passport in order to fly into the country, and then explained to immigration officials upon arrival that I am in fact a Canadian citizen (and used documents like an expired passport in order to prove this to them).

But now that the eTa is coming into…

I am thinking of flying to Canada soon for a two week holiday and was about to fill in the eTA.

Will be flying from the Uk where I'm from.

I have a query though about what is the best thing to put under occupation.

I am currently not working, but am not looking for work either so not really unemployed. I am currently just living off savings and also being supported by a partner a bit. Taking some time out from work and doing some travelling too. There is an option for Homemaker, but I don't…

Hey, I haven't been able to convince any friend to come with me this summer, so am likely headed out on a solo canoe trip but thought I'd throw the idea out to the backpacker community, perhaps someone is doing a longer trip and has a bigger chunk of free time then my friends.

I'm planning to do a trip in Northern Saskatchewan, out of La Ronge on the Churchill River. Ascending the Foster River (a tributary of the Churchill) and descending the Geikie River. The area has a ton of blueberries…
