Lonely Planet review
Live the city life by day then sleep under the stars at night. If you're touring Nova Scotia in a campervan or are travelling on a budget with kids, this camping ground near the city is a great option.
This privately run, municipality-owned Dartmouth camping ground is the only one accessible from Halifax on public transportation. It's basically a grassy field with little shade, but the tent sites are right near a river, and campers can swim and fish in adjacent Lake Charles. In addition to fully serviced and tent sites, there's also a brand-new, family sized yurt. With Lake Charles and plenty of little trails nearby, little ones will poop themselves out running around. When you want to get to Halifax, the helpful owners can provide bus information that will get you in and out of the city center in minutes.
Our independent authors have visited Shubie Campground and selected this as one of our recommended hotels in Dartmouth.
