Acadian Lines has bus services to Halifax ($38, three hours, twice daily) that leave from the Irving Mainway gas station (902-667-8435; 213 S Albion St).

The Trans-Canada Hwy east of Amherst charges a toll of $4. It’s an incentive to use scenic Hwy 2 through Parrsboro instead of dull – but fast – Hwy 104. The Sunrise Trail (Hwy 6) through Pugwash and Tatamagouche to Pictou also avoids the toll.
